Essentially trying his hands at everything, Pierre Fourny (the man at the core of all ALIS productions) tackles the different poetic spaces he's working on under the angle of performing arts, even though their incarnations can vary: installations, exhibitions, films, events, digital productions, books, and of course, staged shows.
In L'âme hors du signe ("The soul outside the sign"), abstract videos of great beauty are shown on the back wall of the stage. Fireworks and lines. Letters start to appear, gather and split up everywhere to form words. A delightful music surrounds the spectators.
Then manipulators-dancers dressed in black discreetly set up cardboard objects that underline the opposition between virtual beauty and mediocre reality.
Are we watching a show? Yes, but an indefinable one. It lasts one little hour, but could just as well be eternal. It opens a door for each one's dream. It doesn't impose anything, it simply prompts meditation. It's infinitely unique.
Pierre Fourny's game is asking an essential question: is soul stuck inside the head, or is it free outside the body, able to meet other souls without physical limits?
An exhibition called 1/∞&th can be presented in conjonction with the show. The play on letters and words is an ideal introduction for a playful proposition.
