A small family circus somewhere in the 50's. A "mudshow" as they say in the USA, with feet in the mud, and very little means : only 4 artists to do everything from acrobatic, to dance, clown acts, juggling, etc.
We're backstage with them, sharing the intimacy and secret life of that travelling family, behind the curtain, behind the sequin and fake smiles usually reserved for the ring and invisible audience, over there.
There's Louisa (Sky de Sela), the Mother and Chief who keeps her family in order, fixes stockings and counts every penny they own. Exhausted by that life on the road, sometimes hurt, but always dignified ans full of humour and love for her family.
There's Tino (Andrés Tapia-Fernandez), the Father and co-Chief, so to speak. An irresistible Monsieur Loyal and dazzling Knife Thrower. But he's a bit lost, quite absent when it comes to solving a family crisis, and keen on the bottle. His metamorphosis will be spectacular!
There's Josephine (Miriam de Sela), Louisa's little sister, a luminous acrobat, boiling with energy. She has a small crush on her step-brother Tino, she's looking for herself, her own identity.
And there's Jasmine (Kamma Rosenbeck), Louisa & Tino's daughter, a graceful and blossoming teenager who likes to slide up her trapeze to watch the adults from above. Little by little, she'll become a woman and circus artist with her own universe.
Funny and radiant, grave and intense at the same time, Flying Fish Circus is a circus opening its heart for us, on the humanity and journey of these 4 characters from shadow to light. A simple and beautiful hommage to Circus, to its sequin curtain that reflects all the mutifaceted aspects of a travelling life.
