Théâtre La Licorne is a company based in Lille, founded and directed by Claire Dancoisne. Since 1986, with a team of actors, puppeteers, visual artists and musicians, they've been creating quirky shows crossing the borders of puppet theatre, visual theatre, masks, circus...
With Spartacus, La Licorne invites you to enter a beautiful little home-made arena to relive the libertarian and epic tale of Spartacus, the slave from Thrace who defied the all-mighty Roman Empire. With fascinating tiny or giant puppets, 3 actors-manipulators and 2 opera singers, you witness the grandiose glory and cruelty of Rome with your very own eyes, in a surprising scale-effect between minuscule and infinity!
Please note that La Licorne will also present two brand new productions in 2012:
Fantastik Peplum a minuscule roman saga in a bathtub! that will premiere on 9th May 2012 at Le Bateau Feu in Dunkerque, France
and
Les Encombrants font leur cirque (The Cumbersomes make circus), a circus made by mad angry hilarious old people, that will premiere from 1st til 25th August 2012 at Théâtre du Peuple de Bussang, France
PRESS REVIEWS
Metal, cardboard, wood, simple and yet sophisticated mechanisms, each scene, each appearance is captivating. It happens in an ideal space, two tribunes with an open roof in the shape of a little arena designed by Ettore Marchica. It's a dream that enchants you, impresses you, scares you, makes you laugh and travel. What a great play performed by La Licorne! Run to see it with your family as this show can speak to children and parents. Le Figaro
It's unclassifiable, great, jaw-breaking and full of meaning. La Provence
A show full of ideas and humour, without masking what is at stake in the fight, nor the cruelty and blood. Everything is grandiose and trifling at the same time, lyrical and minimalistic. All the power of imagination. La Vie
