The Lille based french company Theatre La Licorne, directed by Claire Dancoisne, composed of actors, puppeters, visual artists and musicians, has been inventing quirky universes blending objects theatre, art of mask, visual arts, circus, etc... since 1986.
Their shows are always big human adventures, grandiose and yet tenderly absurd. A theatrical language made of flesh, paper, old rotten metal mechanics... exploring worlds of abnormal beauty and dark humour.

La Licorne's new show:

SPARTACUS

Premiere in march 2010

Epic show for 2 opera singers, 3 actors-manipulators and hundreds of puppets!

Two opera singers (baritone and low baritone)
at the senate, in the thermae, on the battle field, in villas or at circus games. Their posessed roman voices will make Rome sing in the face of a revolt of unsuspected scale.

Three actors / puppeters to bring to life hundreds of mechanised objects, to embody broken slaves and heroes.

A majestic and minimalistic peplum for hand crafted theatre.

Theatre La Licorne - Spartacus

"Make an epic show with puppets !? Yes, let's be unreasonable ! More than 300 puppets and special effects Hollywood could envy !
The 2 opera singers will sing the glories and decays of ancient Rome, where the class struggles were almost as violent as today."
Claire Dancoisne

Dear Family !

Dear Family ! is a show for one actor, one table, tool boxes and tiny objects, for secret places and unusual meetings.

"A mad man, an inspired poet, an heroic handyman gives himself the mission to save a world of forgotten sequin. A world where one can fix the everyday life to make it glow more. Alone in his shed, surrounded by his tools, he is the unique survivor of a circus family - the Cazzuros - and he now wants to believe in the miracle of his tool box. Longing for the smell of hay, grease and formalin, he recreates impossible feats, scale 1/30th !" Claire Dancoisne

PRESS REVIEW

With an economy of means and space, the spectator enter an immense universe, a voyage into time, in the memory of circus, poetry and life. And poetry wins in the end, fragile like a family of birds on electrical wires. (La Gazette Nord-Pas-de-Calais)

The magic comes from tiny things. From the gestures and dreams of a comedian projecting his desires of incredible feats on the screen of our childhood. (La Depeche du Midi)
